I’d like to pass on a personal recommendation for a truly charming entry in the genre: Under Witch Moon, by Maria E. Schneider.
Adriel’s a modern-day witch who plies her trade as both a magic worker and a paranormal investigator – and it’s the type of work that often has her working with the police! This is an exceptionally interesting fantasy for several reasons. First off, I love the location – the small-ish high desert city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Second, I enjoy the realistic, semi-technical approach to witchcraft – working with earth and stone, clarifying and containing, charms, and metalwork. This is tough work, with a lot of experimenting on the go, and there’s a scene where she tries to learn to fly which is worth the price of admission alone. Third and finally, this a book that takes the mystery seriously – I won’t give away too much of the plot, but suffice it to say that it involves unexpected murders, vengeful vampires, and a seriously dangerous (and magical) antagonist! Under Witch Moon is normally 3.99, but will be dropped to .99 on from February 15 to 18. Be sure to check this book out! Comments are closed.
